On Thursday 15 October 2020, our Communications Director, Laura, ran an insightful training session focusing on writing impactful and targeted press releases, in a language that is accessible to everyone, cutting down on jargon and what has become known as “institutional English”. Laura also took us through the do’s and don’ts of media communication and her own experiences, as an award-winning journalist, of successful media messaging. These tips will be easily transferable for use in any other language used for creating great press releases.
“My training session helped demystify how the media works and how to write a great press release,” said Laura. “I hope my experience, first as a journalist, then later sitting on the other side of the fence, trying to get stories published in the media, will help others within civil society communicate more effectively and successfully.”
