Maria Petkova has been the director of Tulip Foundation since its establishment in 2004. Tulip Foundation is a grant giving and operational organisation with a mission to encourage social responsibility in Bulgarian society. It does this by enhancing co-operation among civil society, the corporate sector, national and local authorities in order to improve the quality of life and developmental opportunities for the people of Bulgaria. Volunteering is one of the core elements in all the different programmes of the foundation. Before joining the Tulip Foundation Maria Petkova worked for the Co-Operating Netherlands Foundations for Central and Eastern Europe in Bulgaria; the World Bank Institute in Washington DC; the Open Society Foundation in Sofia; the Office of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria; and the Medical Academy Sofia. Mrs Petkova is a Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau.
