Emfasis Foundation – empowering residents affected by the wildfires in Greece

In its 5 years of operation Emfasis has been responding to the immediate needs of people who were severely affected by the financial and humanitarian crisis in Greece. Having developed a valuable network of professional and experienced volunteers along with those who simply wanted to make a difference, Emfasis Foundation has become well known to all socially excluded groups.

Upon the destructive wildfire events of 23 July that affected so many people, Emfasis Foundation has taken immediate action, being present since day one and helping those in need with the priceless contribution of its force of dedicated volunteers. Emfasis Foundation, being a grassroots organisation, which specializes in working with people in streets-based situations, has set up teams of trained streetworkers who have the required skills to identify and to assess individual needs and to provide aid on the ground, emotional support and individualised guidance.

In order to better assist the local community, Emfasis has recently launched its new GlobalGiving project, “Empower residents affected by the fires in Greece”, which will support individuals and families who are dealing with both material and emotional losses. Emfasis’ Foundation Project team will provide a human touch, will offer support and relief through employment, psychosocial counselling and group activities for elder residents and children.

As usual with these kinds of natural disasters, it is the aftermath we need to focus on, support the communities and ensure that the communication bridge between society and the communities is open and productive. Emfasis’ vision is to support all community members in order to stand on their feet and be able to take the necessary steps to overcome the tragic events that changed their current life conditions, and empower them to care for themselves and for their loved ones if needed.
