This week, close to 50 young people from France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and the UK will be in Seville to take part in a series of events celebrating the European Year for Development (EYD2015).
The kick-off event will be a two-day meeting of EU Youth Ambassadors, organised by Volonteurope in collaboration with its Spanish member Alianza por la Solidaridad.
EU Youth Ambassadors is a new Volonteurope programme, which aims to foster political engagement and active citizenship amongst young Europeans, while increasing their knowledge of European affairs and institutions.
The event in Seville will bring together newly recruited EU Youth Ambassadors from across the continent. As well as meeting with European Commission and local government representatives to discuss the role of the public sector in supporting sustainable development, they will hear first-hand accounts from recently returned EU Aid and EVS volunteers. During the meeting, EU Youth Ambassadors will also have the opportunity discuss issues that concern them, particularly relating to sustainable development, and to work together to develop concrete projects aimed at ensuring that the work start in Seville is continued once they return home.
