[:en]We are delighted to announce that Roger Casale, of our members New Europeans, was  awarded the Sheila McKechnie Foundation’s People’s Choice Award 2017 for the #RightToStay campaign following a vote by the public.
The award ceremony was due to take place at the House of Lords on Thursday, 23 March but was moved to The Foundry Conference Centre in London following the attack in Westminster.
The inspirational human rights campaigner and broadcaster, Peter Tatchell presented the award and read the citation which was as follows:

“Roger Casale, who founded New Europeans in 2013 to represent the rights of EU citizens and encourage them to engage more in European politics. In 2016 they launched a campaign following the vote for the UK to leave the European Union, which aims to secure the post-Brexit rights of the 3.3m EU citizens currently resident in the UK. Roger has led the campaign focusing on mobilising individuals and direct lobbying of politicians, which has helped to change the narrative of how EU citizens are viewed. The campaign has led to the setting up of a new All Party Parliamentary Group on Free Movement”

In accepting the award Roger Casale said:

“I dedicate this award to the unseen, unheard, unknown EU citizen living in Britain today. And I say to that person, stand up, you have a voice, you have rights, you are not alone. We stand with you. Your voice is our voice. Your rights are our rights. Together we will be heard. Together we will win.”

New Europeans team members Tamara Flanagan OBE (third from left) Prof.Emmy van Deurzen (second from left) and Phil Cooper (first left) also attended the reception.[:]
