Tulip Foundation has recruited and trained two groups of young volunteers from Sofia who will act as language mentors for young refugees in the frame of Talk with me project. The project is being implemented in partnership with Gemeinsam leben & lernen in Europa from Passau, Germany and Centrul de Voluntariat Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The project is aimed at the development and adaptation of an innovative programme for young volunteers in support for young refugees and children refugees to help them to learn the language of the country where they have elected to stay. The programme includes educational and teaching materials that are adapted for the needs and the interests of young people. The model is applied successfully in Germany and is based not on an academic learning of the language but on opportunities for communication on general themes and using the language in everyday life

.

The volunteers have developed various individual themes richly illustrated with pictures and paintings. They cover everyday life in various aspects like city transport, shopping in Sofia, going out, leisure time, sports, traditions and celebration etc. they have spent time together to discuss, comment and enrich the presentations and the picture materials.

In mid-July they had their first get-to-know each other meeting with young refugees at the meeting place of Caritas Sofia and the first the individual meetings are starting this week.
