Volonteurope was created in the Netherlands, one of the founding members of what is now the European Union, in 1981.
It was founded on the basis of the profound belief in and need for European cooperation, solidarity, recognition of the value of volunteering and, above all, in the spirit of the belief, and fight for, respect for human rights and human dignity.
These are the values that Volonteurope holds dearly today. We are a network that brings together nearly 60 member organisations from across Europe – European Union and the Council of Europe. In these times of uncertainty, whatever happens next, we, as a network, pledge to our members that their voice and the amazing good practices of volunteering, active citizenship and social justice, which they implement every day in their work, will continue to be heard and shared at European level.
We are a network that was created in the spirit of European solidarity. We were founded 35 years ago and, despite the outcome of the referendum, we will continue to be strong in Europe. We are members of the Social Platform, Civil Society Europe, Lifelong Learning Platform, European Alliance for Volunteering and partners of SOLIDAR. We hold their values as something that will guide our vision positively into the future.
In solidarity with all of Volonteurope members, associates, partners and friends,
Ooangh Aitken, Volonteurope President & Piotr Sadowski, Secretary General of Volonteurope
