Volonteurope is teaming up with Volonteurope member Alianza por la Solidaridad, as well as Hungarian Baptist Aid and GVC to support the implementation of the European Commission’s EU Aid Volunteers initiative.

The EU Aid Volunteers initiative brings together volunteers and organisations from different countries, providing practical support in the provision of humanitarian aid and contributing to the strengthening of local capacity and resilience of disaster-affected communities.

Through the initiative, 4 000 EU citizens will get the opportunity to do humanitarian work and help people caught up in crises. The initiative will also provide capacity building for four 400 people from non-EU, disaster-affected countries and 10 000 online volunteering opportunities.

Currently, across the EU, 12 organisations are accredited to send volunteers through the EU Aid Volunteers initiative. Volonteurope and its partners have embarked on a project, which kicked off with a meeting in Brussels in late November, with the goal of increasing this number to 28.

The project will target voluntary organisations, and Volonteurope members in particular, who are interested in becoming sending organisations. Working with partners specialising in humanitarian aid and volunteer management, Volonteurope will be offering capacity building opportunities to interested organisations in preparation for accreditation.
